What to know before getting your first tattoo ♡

These are just some things I think you should know before getting your first tattoo. Getting a tattoo is very exciting, but with all the excitement, sometimes you can forget these little things that could be very important. This is based off of my own experience and not anyone else’s, so take my advice and tips as you wish.

💖 Research the shop where you are going to get your tattoo! I did heavy research and read numerous amounts of reviews before I decided where I wanted to go. I highly recommend that you do the same. There could be places out there who re-use needles or don’t have proper hygiene; it’s terrifying to think that such places exist, but you never know! So please do your research and ask the tattoo parlors ANY and ALL questions you have before getting it done.

💖 Choose a tattoo artist that you believe would design your tattoo exactly the way you want it! Once you find a tattoo parlor, it’s time to find your tattoo artist. Usually the shop has examples of art/tattoos that the artist has done. Just look through their pieces and see who would be able to fulfill your request the best. If you explain what you want, they might even recommend someone who would be able to do it better than anyone else.

💖 Eat something before you get tatted up! I made the mistake of not eating anything before getting my tattoo. Since I was nervous (I am scared of needles, but I like tattoos…funny right?) and hadn’t eaten anything, I felt faint near the end of getting my tattoo done. My tattoo artist said that it was because I needed some sugar in me, so I drank some juice and sat for a bit and then felt so much better.

💖 Get a tattoo of something you know you can’t get enough of! I know you know this, but it would be a sucky situation if you get tired of your tattoo a few months or even a few minutes after you get it. Remember, you can get ANYTHING tattooed on you! Think about things you absolutely love and go from there!

💖 Relax and breathe! Tattoos do hurt, but if you really truly want one, I believe that your want would surpass any pain. And plus, if I was able to do it with a fear of needles (I faint when getting injections and get woozy when getting blood drawn), I’m pretty sure you can do it, too! If you really are curious about the pain, I suggest getting a small tattoo first just to FEEL how it feels. Depending on how small of a tattoo you get, getting the tattoo done could take less than 10 minutes. So, if you don’t want to sit there for a few hours before knowing what it actually feels like, then try a small one first. 🙂

If you have a tattoo, or are thinking of getting one, share in the comments what you have a tattoo of or what you want! I’d love to hear about them! 😊
