I just got back from my Walt Disney World trip a few days ago, and I decided to blog about it! 😊 There will be a total of four blog posts (including this one) talking about each day my family and I were at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida! Hopefully the information in these posts will help those of you who are thinking about planning a trip to the theme parks or for those of you who are just curious about what Walt Disney World is like! This first blog post will be about the resort we stayed at and other goodies like information about Magic Bands and Disney’s Magical Express! 🏰💕
First of all, this trip was semi-spontaneous. I planned it less than a month before we actually went, when others plan months in advance. 😅 I booked and purchased everything online, including flight, hotel, and theme park tickets. 🎫 American Airlines offered a package deal which included the flight and Disney hotel for a little less that $1500 TOTAL for the three of us! I thought that this was a pretty good deal since it was at a Disney Resort (4 nights, 3 days), and we were also only booking a month before the trip. ✈️ Even though American Airlines online also offered me to purchase theme park tickets with the flight and hotel, I decided to just buy our tickets (3-day park hopper) on the Walt Disney World website, which cost about $1100 including tax. 💸
I highly advise those of you who are planning a trip to Walt Disney World to take advantage of MyDisneyExperience, which is an online service (also an app) that Disney provides to make your trip run more smoothly. You can view your itinerary any time you want using this app! Once you have an account on the Walt Disney World website and you book your Disney Resort hotel room and buy your tickets, you get something called Magic Bands that will be sent to you via mail or waiting for you at your resort. Magic Bands, as of now, are only used at Walt Disney World in Florida. They are used to get into your resort room, get into the parks, used for fastpasses, to make dining reservations, and to make purchases throughout your stay. By using MyDisneyExperience, you can link your hotel room, dining reservations, fastpasses, credit card, and tickets to your Magic Band(s) (your family/friends who are staying with you also get magic bands). Magic Bands truly make life easier since everything you need is pretty much on your wrist. 😉 You can choose the color/design too, by the way.
Having the MyDisneyExperience app on your smartphone during your trip is extremely convenient. If you are staying at a Disney Resort, you can book your fastpasses 60 days in advance of your trip! You can do this online or on the app. You can choose up to three fastpasses per day for one park! I was able to book three fastpasses for my first day at Epcot, three on my second day at Animal Kingdom, and three again on my third day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. So, I was able to reserve these nine fastpasses for me and my party (3 people total) in advance! If you have the app, you can change or choose new fastpasses throughout your time at the parks; nothing is set in stone and having the ability to change things when you want to is very convenient. 😄 Here are photos of me using my Magic Band to get into the hotel room!
As I mentioned earlier, you can also make dining reservations (also in advance if you want) and link them to your Magic Bands. For example, if you want to eat at the Be Our Guest restaurant in the Magic Kingdom, open the app and hopefully if there is space available during your desired time, just book your reservation! Your Magic Band is already connected to your account, so you don’t have to worry about anything! All you have to do once you are at the restaurant is scan your Magic Band; it shows the cast member how many are in your party and then they will let you in shortly after! 🍧
Since our resort was booked in advanced, right when we got off the plane in the Orlando International Airport, we followed the signs for the Disney Magical Express to take us to our resort. 🚌 This shuttle runs 24 hours and has to be booked in advance so that they know when to pick you and your party up at the airport. This is also used to return to the airport from your resort at the end of your trip! ✨
The resort we stayed at was Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and it was beautiful! 😍 The lobby smelled so good and was nice and cool once you walk in (which is refreshing after being in Florida’s humid weather). The lobby was decorated with many knick-knacks and cool stuff from different decades ranging from the 50s to the 90s! There was also a lounge area, an arcade, and pools that guests are welcomed to during their stay! The food court is also great if you want a late meal since it is opened until midnight! 🍕🍟
